Windmill Inn bed and breakfast is located in picturesque Wapiti Valley, known for its stunning beauty and unique rock formations. Teddy Roosevelt called it “the most scenic 52 miles in America”. We’re conveniently located approximately 30 miles to Yellowstone and 20 miles to Cody, Wyoming. Our central location provides a good base to enjoy Yellowstone Park, Buffalo Bill Center of the West museum, white water rafting, fishing, hunting, hiking, and nightly rodeos in Cody.
Located on 12 acres, adjacent to BLM, so lots of room to roam. The main house has two guest rooms upstairs (Offutt and Wapiti rooms), a full bath upstairs, powder room downstairs, dining room, solarium, and poolroom with 60” TV, sitting areas, and fireplace.
There is a two night minimum stay and no children allowed.
Every winter a bunch of Yellowstone guides get together to brush up on skills in preparation for the upcoming season. Fortunately for those of us who work for Tour To Yellowstone, that means training with Bob Richard. Bob is a third generation tour guide and has been providing guided trips in Wyoming and Yellowstone for […]
Suzie and I were talking this morning while preparing breakfast and a wolf walked into view behind the house. Mid-sentence I interrupted her, pointed, and yelled wolf. The big male was walking along our fence behind the cottage, so I texted our guests who watched him trot down into a gully behind the cottage. What […]

This is a fun time of the year to drive around the neighborhood watching wildlife. The featured image here are some Big Horn Sheep that were 10 minutes up the road from our inn. It’s been a busy winter for us at Windmill Inn; we’ve had several family issues to deal with as well trying to stay ahead of winter. For those of you who live in a cold climate you know what I’m talking about. Spring is trying to creep in, last week we had some warm spring […]
It’s been a wonderful Indian Summer with pleasant daytime temperatures, cool nights, and occasional air freshening sprinkles. Listening to the majestic sounds of elk bugling during the evenings and mornings, and smelling fragrant sage after fall showers gives one a real sense of being in the wild Rocky Mountains. The featured picture in this blog […]
I can’t believe how fast this summer has flown by. We’ve been very busy here at the Windmill Inn with lots of guests from all over the world and US. It was fun talking baseball with George over a cup of coffee in the morning and why his Astros were doing so well. By the […]
Spring has settled in with a few summer-like days here at Cody Wyoming. The weather has been fantastic with a few late afternoon thunder showers. I was working in the yard when a distant thunder shower produced this wonderful rainbow rising out of the lush green hayfields below. We’ve been busy at Windmill Inn getting […]
The past few days have been wonderful, pleasant days with the birds busy building nests, and Suzie and Rod working in the yard. Suzie has several species of flowers started in the solarium ready to be planted in the flower beds. In northern Wyoming it’s not safe to put the little guys out until the […]
Today we woke up to a return of winter at the Windmill Inn. Yesterday was a pleasant day in the 70’s wearing shorts and flip flops, and enjoying a day of fishing with my daughter Sara in the mountains. When I woke up this morning everything was covered in a blanket of snow. On my morning […]
